Southern Accent was founded by Frances Wood after she arrived from her Native Ireland in the late 1960’s where she worked as a registered nurse until, on the advice of a dear friend, traded bedpans for bus pans in the 1970’s. After opening the Rosedale Diner in 1979 she was hooked. Frances opened Southern Accent in 1984 where she has combined her love of folk art, antiques and the sights and sounds and tastes of New Orleans. Today Frances and co-owner Thess remain devoted to Louisiana fare with a Southern and Soul twist. Both Thess & Frances regularly visit New Orleans & La Fayette to soak up the culture, the food and good times.
Thess joined the Southern Accent team in 1998 with his enthusiasm and love for cooking he quickly moved up the ranks in the kitchen and ended up apprenticing under former Chef Elena Embrioni. He became chef and business partner in 2008.
Thess has combined the cultural traditions of his native home in Sri Lanka with the varied influences and insights gained from multiple visits to New Orleans, where he fell in love with the ambience, the music and of course, the food.
